NJCAA Region XV Division II Baseball All-Region Team
April 29, 2013-SUNY Orange; Middletown, NY – Freshman outfielder
Michael Trefil was named the 2013 Region XV Division II Baseball “Player-of-the-Year” late Sunday night.  The coaches and selection committee determined that the Sullivan County Community College standout was worthy of this honor as part of the season ending meeting at SUNY Orange.

Trefil was a unanimous selection after leading the Generals into the Region XV Tournament.  Third-seeded Sullivan will visit second seeded Rockland, while top seed Westchester hosts fourth-seeded SUNY Orange.  All the action gets underway Thursday, May 2nd at 4pm.

Trefil, a LaGrange Highlands (Illinois) native, batted .424 with 55 RBI.  The 6’3” right handed batter blasted 8 home runs to go along with 21 doubles, and tallied 61 hits.  The Lyons Township High School graduate assisted on 10 putouts from the outfield and did not register an error.

Westchester’s Alec Eisenberg and Alan Carey were named the Region XV “Co-Pitchers-of-the-Year.”  Eisenberg, a 6’4” Ardsey product, was nearly unhittable on the hill and carried the Vikings to their second straight Mid Hudson Conference Championship.  He went went 5-1 with 56 strikeouts in 53 innings pitched.  He allowed 14 runs and only 6 earned runs which equated to a 1.02 ERA.

Carey, a sophomore from Staten Island, posted a 5-2 record and fanned 59 batters in 56 innings pitched.  The Tottenville High School graduate allowed just 15 earned runs and chalked up a 2.41 ERA.

Region XV DII Baseball Championship Begins

This year's edition of the Region XV Division II Baseball Tournament gets underway Thursday May 2, 2013 with a pair of opening round games.  Top seeded Westchester will host fourth-seeded SUNY Orange (13-20) at 4pm at Manhattanville College.  The Vikings, under the direction of Billy McClure, have posted a 32-14 overall record with most of their games on the road or at neutral sites.  The Valhalla based campus began a campus-wide athletic facility improvement campaign earlier this year.

The other opening round matchup pits second-seeded Rockland (18-15) against No. 3 Sullivan (27-16).  Both teams finished league play with 13-7 records.  However, Rockland won the tiebreaker based on a 3-1 regular season record against the Generals.  First pitch between these two rivals is set for 4pm at Rockland.
